Psychology and risk management: the psychological compass

What it's for
Trading is work under pressure. Decisions are at their worst after a string of stops: you want to "win it back", the size grows, the stops get moved. That's how tilt begins — trying to win back losses instead of trading the plan. Mamay notices it from the facts of your trades before you do.
It's especially useful at the start of the journey and after your first round of learning, when it seems like you already understand everything. Experienced traders can turn it off — Mamay won't get in the way.
How to turn it on
Settings → "Trading and risk" → "MAMAY psychology and risk management". Three modes:
| Mode | What Mamay does |
|---|---|
| Off | shows nothing and doesn't intervene |
| Soft | shows your state in the left panel; in "Risk" and "Critical" a warning comes with your entry order, but the order goes through |
| Hard | in "Critical" it blocks new entries for the chosen time; in "Risk" it won't accept an entry larger than your usual size |
You confirm turning it on yourself. Hard mode is an agreement with yourself: while a pause is running, the mode and rules can't be changed, otherwise it's no protection. Closing and reducing positions is always allowed.
How long the pause lasts
In hard mode you choose: 1 hour, 3 hours, 5 hours or until the next session of the market where the limit was hit:
- crypto — until midnight;
- Russian stocks — until the first session of the next day (the morning session on weekdays, the weekend session on Saturday and Sunday);
- US stocks — until the New York open on the next weekday (16:30 or 17:30 Moscow time, depending on US daylight saving time).
But no less than an hour. The pause applies to new entries in all markets: tension doesn't stay on one chart.
The psychological compass in the left panel
Below the "Trader's Voice" button there's the MAMAY trader figure. It shows your state at a glance:
| State | Figure |
|---|---|
| Optimal | "Confidence" — plan, strategy, growth; if you've already traded today — "Focus": only what matters |
| Stable | "Stability" — calm, control, clear decisions |
| Risk | "Risk" — tension is rising, the ring pulses |
| Critical | "Critical state" — head in hands: time to stop |
| Hard mode pause | "Rest" — recovery and a fresh look |
Hover over it to see why you're at this level, plus Mamay's advice: get up from the terminal, reduce the size, don't add to a position to win it back. Click it to open the full card in "Trader's Voice".
Four metrics
| Metric | What's counted |
|---|---|
| Losses in a row | how many of the latest trades closed at a loss in a row |
| Loss for the day | what percent of the account has been lost today |
| Weekly risk budget | what share of the weekly loss limit has already been used |
| Size of the last trade | how many times bigger it is than a usual trade in this market over the week |
It's calculated from manual trades across all "Terminal" markets on this computer. Each account is in its own currency, so the loss is counted by the worst of them.
The limits are in the same settings card, "My limits": by default 3 losses in a row, 3% for the day, 6% for the week, a trade twice as big as usual. In the same place — "Entry order without a stop-loss": a warning in soft mode, a refusal in hard mode.
