Algotrader: a rule instead of a mood

2 min read · Why trade by a rule rather than by mood: what the MAMAY Algotrader is made of and how it differs from the usual trading robots.

Words in this lesson (10)
Arbitrage — Making money on the price difference of the same thing in two places: buy where it's cheaper, sell where it's more expensive.
Opportunity (arbitrage pair) — A pair of trades in arbitrage: where we buy and where we sell.
Futures — A contract on the price of an asset. You don't receive the coin itself — you gain or lose on the price change. Lets you short and use leverage.
Volume — How much money or how many units changed hands over a period. A move on high volume is more reliable than one on low volume.
Setup — A ready trading rule: under what condition to enter, in which direction, where the stop and the target are.
Screener — A filtering program: it scans hundreds of stocks or coins and shows only those that match the given criteria.
Fee — What you pay the exchange for every trade — both on entry and on exit.
Position — An open trade: what you have bought or sold and haven't closed yet.
DEMO — The DEMO account in MAMAY: prices and fees are real, orders don't go to the exchange, and no real money is at risk.
Backtest — Testing a rule on past data: what would have happened if we had traded this way before.

Why trade by a rule

People get tired, greedy and scared, miss signals at night and "win it back" after a loss. A rule doesn't. The Algotrader takes a rule and executes it the same way in every trade, around the clock, while MAMAY is running. You can minimize the program window: the trades are handled by the server on your computer.

But a rule is valuable only once it's proven to make money. That's why the Algotrader first trades in DEMO — at live prices and against the live order book, with real fees, but without sending orders to the exchange. Money is trusted to a rule only after it has statistics.

How it differs from the usual robots

Usually in other terminalsIn MAMAY
the robot is a "black box", or you have to program itthe rules are visible and set with fields on the screen, no code
testing — a backtest on candles where every fill is "perfect"DEMO against the live order book: the size only fills within the real depth, fees included
turn the robot off — open positions are abandoned"Finish what we started": no new positions open, open ones are managed to the close by the rules
risk is the user's problemsafeguards: a losing streak, a daily limit, drawdown, exchanges with errors
statistics are separate, there's nowhere to learnthe mentor knows every screen and explains every number

What it's made of

  1. "MAMAY Breakout" setups — futures on Bybit. Coins come from the "MAMAY Breakout" screener, entries follow the setup rules. DEMO only for now.
  2. The arbitrage auto-trader — cross-exchange opportunities from "Crypto Arbitrage": it enters the best windows by itself, exits by itself and moves capital to a better window. Dry Run mode — execution against the order book without real orders.
  3. Manual entry with automated management — you decide to enter, and from there MAMAY manages the trade.
  4. Capital protection — shared safeguards for all automation.

Learn where you trade

These lessons live inside the MAMAY terminal. There they come with a mentor powered by your AI that explains the screen you have open right now, reviews of your trades, and everything hidden on the site: screener rules, settings and live examples. Learning and manual trading are free.
